Jubilee Party Monday named West Pokot Senator Samuel Pogishio its new Majority Leader in the Senate replacing Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.

The development came days after details emerged that KANU led Baringo Senator Gideon Moi had signed a post-election agreement with the ruling Jubilee Party.

The agreement between the two parties was received by the Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu on May 8.

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen is also set to lose incentives and resources that came with his former position.

As Majority Leader earns a monthly basic salary of Sh. 765,188, which is Sh. 143,938 above ordinary senators who earn a monthly basic salary of Sh. 621,250.

The position also comes with a premium life insurance, superior pay package, vehicles, enhanced security and at least nine employees paid for by the government.

Murkomen had a government-provided Mercedes Benz car fueled by the government, six police officers — two guarding his rural home, two for his Nairobi home and two bodyguards who accompany him — besides the services of a driver at his disposal.

He will equally have to leave the capacious office at Senate which is has a personal assistant, legal researchers, a secretary and two researchers.

The Senator will part unlimited local travel and abandon a State funded air ticket for self and assistant every time he travels home. He will be left with only two International trips in Business Class.

Murkomen will also lose control of the powerful House Business Committee which sets the agenda for the Senate.

Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Susan Kihika

Ousted Jubilee Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Majority whip Susan Kihika have rubbished their ousters saying it was illegally done.

Speaking to the media a few hours after the State House meeting where they were voted out, Murkomen said the senators did not follow due process in voting them out and therefore they remain the bonafide Majority leader in the Senate and Majority Whip respectively.

Murkomen said that they cannot be ousted illegally neither can the new office bearers be elected through a flawed process.
"The purported argument that we were voted out is preposterous, laughable and the biggest joke you can have in this part of the town," said the angry Elegoyo Marakwet Senator.

Murkomen maintained that according to article 32 of the party’s constitution, before any coalition, the party’ NEC must meet and a negotiation committee named to steer the process.
