Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has fired back at Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju for criticizing and referring to Deputy President William Ruto’s bottom-up economic model as “matako juu”.
Speaking on Tuesday in Gatanga, Murang’a County, during a fete for local musicians, Tuju questioned the exact meaning of bottoms up, claiming that it could refer to a persons’ behind being taken up.
“Lakini hii maneno ya bottoms up economy… Labda Peter Kenneth ungetafsiri… What is it in Swahili?… Matako juu?” Tuju questioned.
Responding to Tuju, Murkomen cited United States President Joe Biden who is also advocating for a Bottoms-up economic model.
Murkomen shared an article where Biden was quoted as saying he is tired of trickle-down economy and is keen on pushing for the bottom-up in order to grow the middle class.

Making use of Biden’s remarks, Murkomen appeared to suggest that it is a total embarrassment for Tuju; a Cabinet Secretary in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government to make such a remark on bottom-up economics, yet it is being backed by powerful global leaders like President Biden.
“Just imagine Tuju the Secretary-General of the governing Party and a member of Uhuru’s Cabinet being part of President’s delegation for a bilateral meeting with US delegation led by President Biden and as they discuss bottom-up economics, Tuju rises up to talk about his buttocks. Very sad,” he tweeted.
