The government said it had not received any official communication from Uganda about the ban on raw and processed Kenyan agricultural products.

But Betty Maina, Cabinet Secretary for Commerce and Industrialization, said the government will reach Uganda to end trade disputes.

"We await official communication from Uganda regarding this decision and we will respond as it has no intention of destabilizing the bilateral trade relationship," he said.

Also, the relevant authorities said there was no cause for alarm as it was on the subject, she said.

Uganda has announced plans to ban a number of Kenyan products from its market shortly.

“We have been too patient. We have not responded in the past, but we will now. Rebecca Kadaga, Uganda's Minister for East African Affairs, was quoted by the Monitor.

The trade dispute between the two countries dates back to 2019, when Kenya stopped importing Uganda's Lato milk.

Kenya further banned Ugandan sugar imports in June 2020, but the previous agreement was to increase imports.

Uganda introduced discriminatory consumption taxes under the 2017 SCT Amendment Act.
