Shock and grief gripped the village of Kiamugumo in the Ngariama ward in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, after a woman was reported to have killed her husband, who was also the deputy district chief.
According to Gichugu sub-county DCI boss Millicent Ochuka, who confirmed the incident, Jedidah Wanja, 35, used a kitchen knife to kill her husband, Dennis Magu, due to an undisclosed family feud.
"The suspicious incident happened after her husband asked for airtime, but I can't believe she could have killed him in airtime," Ochuka told the media.
After the incident that took place on Wednesday, December 15th at 22:00, the residents of the neighborhood could not restrain their shock.
The deceased is the son of MCA candidate Kirinyaga Rose Njeru, who has only been employed on the county council for six months.
"He was hired six months ago and we were hoping to celebrate this festive season together," said Ms. Njeru.
Ms. Njeru was stunned by the incident that took place after they had prayed the Isha prayers together.
"We had just prayed with the family while we were asleep, but ten minutes later I was shocked when my son got a call from his wife and told me she had 'accidentally' killed her husband with a kitchen knife," Rose said.
Ngiriama Ward MCA Erastus Ireri and candidate MCA Caroline Muriithi arrived on the scene to condemn the escalation of domestic violence in the Gichugu Constituency.
"We did not bury five family members who were killed by Paul Murage 35, currently in Kerugoya Gk Prison, after he killed his wife and four children in Kathata village," Ireri said.
Ochuka said that Wanja is currently being held at Kianyaga police station, and the assistant's head body was taken to Kutus, Kibugi funeral home for autopsy.
