A man arrested by detectives a month before the brutal murder of Nakuru businesswoman Veronica Kanini led the police in Nakuru to two more graves where he had buried the other victims.
Moses Kipchirchir Ruto, 34, who was identified on Monday, led detectives to two shallow graves where he had buried a woman believed to be his wife and son.
Part of the police statement released by the DCI said, "Moses Ruto made the disclosure after being questioned by detectives who were not convinced that Kanini was the suspect's sole victim."
According to police, after hours of interrogation on December 26, Ruto confessed to killing Purity Chebet, 24-year-old, and their one-and-a-half-year-old baby boy, Ezra.
"He killed him in early September, before burying his remains on the banks of the Molo River in Mogotio, a few meters from where he would later bury Kanini," the police said in one part of the statement.
The serial killer, who was married to Chebet, told detectives that he had committed the case after a family feud, and on Monday morning the detectives took them to the place where he had buried the two of them.
After digging the ground, the decomposed remains of the mother and son were excavated a few meters from where Kanini's body was found on November 24.
The suspect is believed to have had a secret love affair with Kanini before breaking up after she told him she had found another man.
"Ruto, who did not welcome the separation, resorted to killing Kanini in cold blood. Detectives believe the suspect committed more murders and lit the candle at midnight to find the rest of the tombs," he said.
Police said Ruto would plead for the murder of Veronica Kanini on January 21, 2022.
