Five Major Risks Samidoh Faces Ahead of His Return to Kenya |
Samidoh Muchoki, a Kenyan police officer and singer, is in legal hot water after returning from the United States, where he spent time with relatives and attended his child's graduation.
A warrant for his arrest was issued while he was away. On May 27, 2025, he was charged with leaving his position at Gilgil Police Station.
Samidoh challenged the arrest in court. He asserted that the warrant was politically motivated and that it was issued in bad faith. He clarified that he had applied for retirement before to his departure and that his travel had been authorized. He was nevertheless charged with desertion in spite of this.
1. Risk of Arrest and Prosecution
Samidoh is facing accusations of abandoning duty on May 27, 2025, at his station in Gilgil, Nakuru County. Authorities issued the warrant while he was abroad, reportedly attending his child’s graduation and spending time with family in the U.S.
Although Justice Kavedza granted anticipatory bail, meaning he can’t be arrested without prior court direction, this does not prevent the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the National Police Service from completing investigations or even pressing charges upon his return.

2. Tension With Senior Security Command
In his defense, Samidoh directly challenged top security officials, including the Inspector-General of Police, the DCI boss, and others linked to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit and Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
He claimed the arrest warrant was politically motivated and not based on lawful grounds, arguing that he had received official permission to travel. His legal team termed the move as an “abuse of police power,” raising eyebrows about internal politics in the security service.
3. Threat to His Police Career and Legacy
Samidoh has served in the police service since 2013. On June 17, 2025, he reportedly applied for retirement and was cleared by the relevant authorities. However, if the desertion claim is upheld, it could taint his 12-year service record—especially if prosecutors decide to pursue the case.
The outcome could influence his pension eligibility and overall public service reputation.
4. Travel Limitations and Impact on International Gigs
Due to the court’s directive, Samidoh had to deposit his passport. This significantly limits his ability to perform internationally unless the court later grants special permission.
Given his growing global fan base and regular overseas Mugithi concerts, this restriction may hurt his music career and income streams. It also casts a shadow on future tour planning.

5. Public Image and Legal Uncertainty
Despite court filings that include his leave application, retirement request, and the arrest warrant, the public remains divided. Some view the case as political victimization, while others see it as a test of accountability within the police ranks.
Until the case is mentioned in September, Samidoh’s legal future and by extension, his career remains uncertain. If charges are eventually filed, he must be informed of the court where he will take plea, not arrested arbitrarily.
What Happens Next?
All eyes are now on how authorities and the court will handle Samidoh’s case when he returns. With high-profile support and public interest in both his police and music careers, the outcome could set a precedent for how state officers in the spotlight are treated.
The mention on September 16, 2025, may be the turning point for Samidoh’s dual life as an officer of the law and a Mugithi icon.
