Police Deploy Tear Gas as Goons Stone Rigathi Gachagua's Motorcade

DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua returned to the country following a nearly two-month trip to the United States.

In a video, his hundreds of followers who had gathered at the JKIA to await his return, welcomed him before bringing him to the Kamukunji Grounds.

The government had threatened action against Gachagua upon his return and issued a warning about his upcoming news briefing.

Security teams led him through the crowd to his waiting convoy. They joined him in a parade to Nairobi's Kamukunji Grounds.

However, authorities had prepared for possible conflicts. Anti-terror police officers were stationed surrounding JKIA, using water cannons at strategic locations.

What did Gachagua do during his US tour?

During his US tour, Gachagua met Kenyans in the diaspora, attended public forums, and rallied support for the 2027 elections.

During his engagements, the former deputy president stated that he would testify against President William Ruto if the US Senate launched an investigation into potential links to terrorist activity.

He claimed that the government has engaged with al-Shabaab insurgents, citing the April 2025 release of five abducted Mandera chiefs following discussions.

While visiting Facebook's headquarters, he also promoted his 'Wantam' campaign by writing it on the wall—a slogan emphasizing his determination to guarantee Ruto serves just one term.

Will the government arrest Gachagua?

While the DCP had asked for a'million-man welcome' for Gachagua, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen warned that if the mobilization became disorderly, the government would take decisive action.

Murkomen demanded that Gachagua make a statement on his claims against the president.

Gachagua dismissed the demands, claiming that the police were working for Ruto and thus could not probe him.

He further claimed that the Kenyan government had not launched any investigation into his claims.
