A 20-year-old student, studying at Kirinyaga University in Juja district of Kiambu district, fell from the third floor of an apartment building and died yesterday morning.

In a shocking incident at the Lantana Apartments in Juja, Kirinyaga-based university sophomore Taylon Mbuthia rolled on the ground floor and died at the scene after binge drinking with her girlfriend and fellow boyfriend.

On Sunday, Mbuthia had visited his girlfriend, Margaret Nyambura, who was a freshman at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) before she met his death. Together with Margaret's roommate, identified only as Shantel, and another man identified as Joe Momanyi, they partyed at the house from Sunday to Monday and had a good time.

But on Monday morning JKUAT fourth-year student Brian Anda joined them to pick up the girl the deceased had gone to see. When asked who the deceased was at the time, Margaret introduced him as her cousin who hailed from the house.

The five young adults at this time kept partying until late Monday night when their hunger pangs hit them and they decided to look outside for food. Shantel, already drunk and barely able to move, was put to sleep.

When they got out, they saw that the nearby restaurant was already closed, and they decided to continue partying at a nearby restaurant. Around 1 o'clock, the four of them returned to Margaret's bed sitter. However, as they climbed the stairs, an argument broke out between Andaki and the deceased after he realized that the first was not Margaret's cousin.

The two are believed to have quarreled at Margaret's door before the deceased descended to the ground floor under mysterious circumstances.

Dan Guchu, the caretaker of the apartment, told detectives that he woke up loudly but only found the deceased's body spread on the ground floor before he rushed out. DCI immediately alerted Juja-based detectives, who rushed to the scene and found multiple fractures on the deceased's body with blood oozing from his mouth and nose.

An investigation has been launched into the death of a second-year student at Kirinyaga University.

Meanwhile, Margaret Nyambura, Brian Andadaki and Joe Momanyi remain in custody as the main suspects as experts from the homicide branch join their Juja-based colleagues to solve the mystery.
