Armed police officers raided billionaire businessman Jimi Wanjigi's office in Westlands, Nairobi, last night in what they believe was a politically motivated intimidation attempt.

Officers believed to be from the Criminal Investigation Directorate came to the Kwacha Group of Companies office around 9:30 pm and asked to see him.

"They went in, opened the door, and surrounded the compound. They were completely disguised and carrying assault rifles," said Wanjigi.

Wanjigi attended WIPER leader Kalonzo Musyoka's event on Yatta last week. In his speech, Azimio accused Raila Odinga of La Umoja of political fraud.

"I tend to believe it has a lot to do with what I said over the weekend and maybe they have some insight into the type of campaign I'm considering launching. But I was very clear about the various personalities this weekend and it seems to be making some of my friends very uncomfortable," he told Citizen TV.

Jimi Wanjigi: "Raila Amolo Odinga, for whom I'm about to die, is probably enjoying this show somewhere. This is the saddest of all."

Wanjigi also claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta was involved in the night raid.

"Why are they so upset about my candidacy? Why…? Let them just come out and say it. Uhuru Kenyatta come out and say it. And my friend Raila... That Raila Amolo Odinga, whom I almost got killed, was sitting somewhere with her (Uhuru) and probably enjoying this show." It's the saddest thing to dream about," said Wanjigi.

Wanjigi has previously been in conflict with the government and, moreover, with the DCI, headed by George Kinoti.

Ahead of the 2017 election season, police raided his home in Muhaiga and confiscated several weapons. The guns were the subject of a lawsuit in which DCI Kinoti was convicted of contempt of court.

“They tried and failed this in 2017… The same sought after games they tried to intimidate me,” Wanjigi said. "Some people are uncomfortable with my politics or the way I speak... I speak nothing but the truth and I don't think there is anything wrong with telling the truth."
