Meru Senator Mithika Linturi has finally been arrested for 'Madoadoa' remarks made by Vice President William Ruto during his rally at the Eldoret Sports Club.
The Senator was arrested by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate (DCI) of the National Commission on Compliance and Integration (NCIC).
Linturi was arrested at a hotel in Eldoret on Sunday morning.
His arrest comes after Director of Prosecution Noordin Haji instructed Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai to launch an investigation into statements made by the Meru Senator.
During the UDA rally in Eldoret on Saturday (January 8th), the Senator made remarks that he thinks could fuel feelings of hatred, violence and discrimination in Kenyans.
The DPP took note of the words directing Mutyambai to submit a comprehensive report by January 14, 2022.
The statement said, "In accordance with Article 157 (4) of the Constitution, I urge you to immediately initiate a comprehensive investigation into the allegations in question and submit the resulting investigation file on or before January 14, 2022."
Several leaders on Saturday (January 8th), including Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, condemned Senator Mithika Linturi for his "madoadoa" remarks during the UDA rally in Eldoret Uasin Gishu County.
Governor Kinyanjui urged statements accusing Linuri of profiling the communities living in Eldoret.
Kuria urged leaders present at the Eldoret rally to condemn the statements made by the Meru Senator.
He noted that words can trigger painful memories and that the events that took place in the post-election violence on 07/08 can open old wounds.
