Siaya Governor James Orengo made his first public appearance on Friday, August 8th, ending weeks of uncertainty about his location and health.
Orengo, who had been significantly missing from public engagements, attended the funeral of former MP Phoebe Asiyo in Wikondiek, Homa Bay County, with President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Arriving late for the occasion, Orengo was introduced by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga before walking to the dais.
He appeared enthusiastic and in excellent spirits as he addressed the audience:
“I am alive, I am a stone, and there is nowhere I am going,” firmly dismissing concerns about his well-being.
Siaya County Secretary Joseph Ogutu had previously confirmed that the Governor was away on a private mission abroad, dismissing speculation that he had abandoned his duties.
However, Ogutu declined to provide specific details, citing confidentiality and protocol.
Public concern over Orengo’s absence had grown, especially after a fake resignation letter began circulating online, falsely claiming that the Governor had stepped down due to health reasons.
The ODM party swiftly dismissed the letter, calling it fake and urging supporters to ignore it.
